Tin Work

Foot Plates

October 2009....

The footplates were removed from the tractor to gain access while working on the hydraulics. Although not in too bad condition overall some fatigue cracks are evident where they are used as a step. The most damage is evident where the plates are attached to the rear wings, this section will require some re-enforcement. So far only some light cleaning has been carried out. - see images

Bonnet

October 2009....

The bonnet is in very good condition, no damage except for a bit around the exhaust pipe opening. The handles have been removed, new rubber washers and new rubber bonnet seals are needed. The locks have been cleaned and lubricated. The hinges have been removed. Many coats of various shades of blue paint and many years accumulation of exhaust residue have been removed using some heat but mostly mechanical means and lots of elbow grease. - see images

November 2009....

After previously stripping back the rust we managed to cover the bonnet panels with three coats of primer. Further prep is needed before the top coats as a couple of paint runs are visible.

We also purchased some new bonnet rubber and rivets from Agriline that will be fitted after the top coats. We have sourced a local company that should be able to re chrome the bonnet fittings, name plates and steering wheel nut.

Wings

October 2009....

The rear wings need quite a bit of attention, the main panels are ok apart from a dent or too. However the mounts have been previously repaired hastily so these repairs will need reworking. The vertical box sections are corroded through - and yes the wings are the wrong colour being white!

November 2009....

Dad made a start on resurrecting the old mud guards. He cut out the rusted box section and made plates to fit for the right hand side wing. However when stripping back the left wing he found that the panel beneath a previous repair needs more skill than we can apply to repair it. A decision was made to purchase a new set of wings sometime on the future.

Front Cowl

October 2009....

Of all the tin work the front nose and radiator cowl are in the worst condition. The radiator cowl on brief inspection requires a lot of rust removal, sanding and painting but seems structurally sound. The nose cone however is dotted with holes from corrosion, the surround of the grills are badly rusted and warped, and as usual a whole host of dents need correcting - besides removing the nose nothing is envisaged to be done for a while.

Fuel Tank

October 2009....

There are no issues with the fuel tank, no leaks are present. We had a good look in March 2009 when we had the tank off. The only work required is removal, stripping and painting.
