March 2009...

After doing some ground work in preparation for a seed bed the old Super Dexta decided she wanted to do no more work until some things were sorted out.

 

We had a fuel filter blockage in the fuel tank filter so now was a good a time as any to fit the new cold start gear we had bought a couple of weeks before from the Malvern Tractor Show. The tank unfortunately was still half full at around 20 litres. The first job was to drain and filter the fuel to use again later. The old coffee peculator paper that we had came in very handy to slip in a funnel.

 

To remove the tank the steering wheel need to be removed from its splined shaft, easier said than done. After half-a-can of WD40 and as much 'wellie' as we dared it didn't move. So we fashioned a puller with two plates with three bolts between them and one large nut and bolt who’s head sat perfectly on the steering shaft. Using some hefty spanners to put weight on the puller and some extra assistance from the 10lb sledgehammer the wheel was free.

 

After cleaning the tank and the tap filter and refitting the new one we checked the main fuel filter - see image below. No wonder the poor lass didn't run. A new fuel filter was added to the 'needed' parts list along with a new heater switch, a continuity test on the old one proved it was duff, a switch rubber and oil filter which were all purchased from Agriline Products.

 

Before reassembly of the tank and new components the air filter oil bath was cleaned and filled with new oil. The cold start heater plug amazingly still functioned as it should. A new set of radiator hoses and air filter bath to inlet manifold hose was ordered for fitting at a later date.

 

After she was back together apart from a small fuel leak from the inlet manifold cold start pipe everything ran sweet - well for a short time anyway until the hydraulics gave up!

 

November 2009...

On a trip to Agriline we mentioned that the manifold fuel tap they supplied leaked and we came away with a replacement unit that we fitted. Unfortunately this has not solved the problem of the leak but we will revisit this at a later point after the engine has been painted up.
