Its good to see that the lathe i bought is finally getting some good useage - did it involve a trip to machine mart to get it repaired?

Richard Jones 2009.10.24 21:31

Well Charlie I do believe that it was more than just YOU that put money towards the lathe!... It was never rearly broken, it seems Dad was either using the wrong tools or trying to take too much 'bite' out of the material.

Rich, once it's done don't forget to get the tyre shine out - it will look smart then.

Congrats from Kernersville North Carolina. In the 1980`s I sit on a Ford Dexta working our farm for so long I thought my hind-end would grow to the seat. Now the farm is no longer and the equipment is mostly gone but I missed that little tractor so much. 2 years ago I saw a super dexta for sale, well you know what happened then, Now my Ford 3910 just sits in the shed while I work the super dexta to my much delight. My super really runs good however the sheet metal is a little rough. Hopefully one day I`ll be able to bring it back to its full beauty but until then I will enjoy it as it is. Good luck and Merry Christmas to you and yours. Jeff

Congrats of a professional website.

I would appreciate some advice regarding my refurb. Mine is a 1959 Dexta, and as I am using the tractor regularly need to keep the refurb down to smaller quicker jobs during the summer and leave more major work till winter.

Currently I have just replaced the ignition and oil lights c/w leads down to the main harness, as the old ones were not working and when removed it was clear why - wires, bulb holders and connectors were broken.

Both new lights work when ignition switched on, and when engine is started oil light goes out. However the ignition light stays on. I have checked output from the dynamo which is about 13 volts at 1000rpm. Can anyone suggest what I need to check next to try and sort this out. Many thanks, and keep up the good work.

Hi malcg.

For help with your electrical problem I suggest, if you have not already done so, head over to Fordson Tractor Pages website at http://www.fordsontractorpages.nl.

There is a weath of information and a number of very helpful and knowlageable people who are able to answer all your questions. Just sign up to the buletin board a search the Dexta posts or post a new topic.

Happy tractoring!

Rich

I own a 1963 Super Dexta.  My Dad bought it new in 1963.  We owned a quarter section of land.  It hasn't seen much work since 1974.

Have a 6 foot cutter on it and a front end loader.

Runs pretty good although it needs some TLC.  Body work on the front cowling, paint, tach, steering box rebuild and lights.

I live in Edmonton,Alberta Canada

Hi there, my grandfather was the 2nd owner of the tractor, it was orange an blue until one day my father told him that the 'newer' ones were white and blue. My grandad repainted her to make her look younger :) When cleaning off all the old while paint from the wheel rims the original orange was clearly visible.
