conor & dad workin on dexta

Our Super Dexta was bought by my Grandfather sometime in the late 1960's to work his small holding comprising of 17 acres of good arable land. Before purchasing the Dexta prevously had a David Brown VAK1 then a Cropmaster and a Ferguson TE20.

The Cropmaster is still around although its in a sorry state after being stripped over 30 years ago due to an engine block crack and has been left in the elements since then to make way for the TE20. The TE20 was then traded in for the Super Dexta which was sourced by by father who was working in the trade at the time.

The Super Dexta was a big step up from the TE20 in its usfullness arround the farm. Being the only tractor we owned she had to do all the groundwork around the land only getting some help during harvest time from the combined harvesters and possible old style thrashing crews.

In the late 1970's when farming lost is profitablity the land we owned was not sufficient to support crop production with a good return. The main part of the land was then rented to a local farmer whos family still work it today. This left the tractor with mowing, turning and baleing duties for the small area of grass up until the mid 1980's when this was grassland was also reliqushed to the local farmer to cut.

It's life from then until now was taken up with load carrying and ground work on the large allotment type area surrounding the orchard.

Currently the tractor is in desperate need of some TLC after a few years of neglect and now her duties are almost all but gone now is a good time to make a project of this useful working tractor - our "little workhorse".

While stripping back the bonnet paint work we revealed an original supplier name plate pictured below. The orginal supplyer was Holdrons of Ashby

About our "little workhorse":

These little web pages have been created, and hopefully updated regularly , to record some history of my fathers Fordson Super Dexta.

She is currently undergoing some stages of an overhaul to try and get her back in to full working order so we intend to record the stages of the overhaul and maintenance on here too.
